Wikipedia defines "Republic" as a state under a form of government in which the people, or some significant portion of them, retain supreme control over the government. The word "republic" is derived from the Latin phrase res publica, which can be translated as "a public affair".
We made our freedom and constitution a "public affair" 64 years ago. We have a great reason to celebrate, proudly display our national resources & strengths on Rajpath for the world to view. To show the world that India, referred to third world country by the westerners some decades ago, is now foremost among all developing nations in the world and is ready to take on any challenge.
Very soon we are set to claim the position of a developed nation with our towering strengths like a booming economic power (set to rise at 9% this year), a raring-to-go youth population, rapidly progressing social infrastructure, advanced science, technology & educational sectors...outsourcing capabilities, phenomenal entrepreneurial capabilities, even a budding sports talent and so much else. India is poised for several other social, corporate, economic and environmental reforms this year. There is growth, development, positivity all around.
Agreed that- terrorism (be in internal or external), corruption, poverty and violence rear their ugly heads most often than not…but what is a nation without major challenges? Inspite of the Kalmadis, Radias, Rajas, Dawoods (to name a few) - there has been significant progress, a never-say-die attitude and the tendency to rise unscathed from umpteen disasters.
We have proved it as nation and always shall rise beyond all expectations. This Republic Day, I salute the Indian fortitude with a pride that only an Indian can conjure. Happy Republic Day to all!!

Vande Maataram! well, as the coin has two sides so are the challenges for a developing country. You have summed it up very well. If we can grow @ 9% YOY with all these corrupt bodies, think where we would be heading if the cleansing happens to the whole administration. Nevertheless, 'Satyameva Jayate' :)

As you said, despite all odds (which according to me are quite difficult to curb presently, given the number of scams one comes across on a daily basis), progress still continues steadily. India has enormous enormous potential, which I'm sure you will agree. Hope our brave country will continue fighting it out & winning!
